Ratatouille - Remy's Ratatouille
While the idea of a rat cooking your food would have probably made you feel a little nauseous pre-2007, Ratatouille changed everything when we watched Remy work his magic in his Parisien kitchen. And while the whole film went down a treat with fans, foodies were particularly taken by the beauty of the ratatouille that Remy brought to life on our screens. From the colors to the precision, it's now iconic.
Although the popular French dish wasn't made up specifically for the movie, it's not the kind of dish that you'd make every day. That's what makes the concoction of eggplant, tomato, zucchini, and other veg so special.
Lady and the Tramp - Spaghetti and Meatballs
When you think of Lady and the Tramp, there's a high chance that you immediately think of the spaghetti and meatballs scene. After all, it's iconic - and something that couples have replicated time and time again. And while there's no denying the romance associated with this dish, it's fair to say that it also looked absolutely delicious when it made its way onto our screens. Especially the meatballs themselves!
What you might not realize about this scene, however, is that Walt Disney originally wanted to remove that particular scene from the film before it was released. Thank goodness he didn't.
Beauty and the Beast - Gray Stuff
"Be Our Guest" is one of the most iconic songs from Beauty and the Beast. As you probably know, this whole scene revolves around a feast that's full of delicious food and excellent service. But one thing that will go down in Disney history is the gray stuff. It's delicious, after all. However, one thing movie fans have always wondered is that the gray stuff actually is, and we still don't know.
If you head to any Disney park, however, you'll be able to try their own iteration of this dessert. They make it from vanilla pudding, chocolate pudding, whole milk, chocolate sandwich cookies, and a few extras.
The Lord of the Rings - Lembas Bread
The Lord of the Rings franchise is one that has captivated fans across the globe for decades. And while most people focus on Sam and Frodo's dedication to finding the ring or Gandalf's epic powers, the hungry amongst you may have been intrigued by the lembas bread that keeps the hobbits fueled during their trip to Mordor. After all, it looks yummy - and Sam and Frodo have no problems eating the Elven bread for weeks on end.
Of course, lembas bread isn't a real thing, but that hasn't stopped LOTR fans from making their own version of the dish. Most people use ground corn and seeds to do so.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe - Turkish Delight
Although popular movies often hail from Hollywood, many are also made across the pond. And when The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe was released many years ago, American children weren't just introduced to British accents - they were also introduced to British candy. After all, who can forget Peter and his love for Turkish Delight? He loved it so much that the evil witch even used it to turn him against his siblings.
And while Turkish Delight certainly looked good enough to eat, you may have been wondering what this sweet treat was. Well, it's a flavored jelly-like candy covered in powdered sugar.
Matilda - Chocolate Cake
We know Matilda is all about books, superpowers, and getting revenge on horrible principals, but you can't deny that this movie is also perfect for foodies. From the homemade pancakes the young Matilda makes on her own to the chocolates that she steals from Miss Trunchball, there are so many amazing foods on offer. But does anything come close to the chocolate cake that Bruce Bogtrotter devours in front of the whole school? No, we thought not.
Although Bruce struggled to eat this chocolate cake, we bet there were many chocolate-cake-loving fans at home who were very confident they could finish the whole thing within the hour. It looked yummy, after all.
Green Eggs and Ham - Green Eggs and Ham
Even if you're not called Sam, you'll know about green eggs and ham. Made famous by the children's book by Dr. Seuss, the food in Green Eggs and Ham has since made its way into an animated television show by Netflix. And while the idea of green eggs might make you feel a little nauseous, it's well worth giving it a go, right? After all, it's one of the most famous fictional foods out there.
Whether you add green food dye or just layer some spinach on your eggs to turn them green, we think it's time to add some green eggs and ham to your Sunday brunch this week.
Harry Potter - Chocolate Frogs
You'll be hard-pressed to find someone who wasn't inspired by the magic of the Harry Potter series. And while these books and movies brought us all kinds of magical foods, none compared to the iconic chocolate frogs. But these weren't just frogs made from chocolate - they were living, breathing frogs made from chocolate. You had to eat them fast just in case they jumped out of the window, too.
Of course, you can buy chocolate frogs now, and you'll find them in every British grocery store or in any Harry Potter-affiliated attraction. But unfortunately, none of them are magical - and that's a real shame.
When Harry Met Sally - Katz’s Delicatessen Sandwich
When Harry Met Sally is arguably one of the most famous rom-coms ever. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan were a romance made in Hollywood heaven and put "I'll have what she's having" on the map. And while this Kat'z Delicatessen scene is perhaps one of the biggest turning points in their relationship - it was also a turning point for those who were hungry for a sandwich. And even those who weren't!
The Katz’s Delicatessen sandwich looked so good on the screen, and many fans of the movie have tried to replicate it at home by making themselves a pastrami sandwich with mustard and pickles. But was it as good? Probably not.
The Rugrats - Reptar Bars
We're going to assume that most of you watched The Rugrats when you were younger. Whether you watched the television show or the many movies that came out, this children's animation follows a group of babies as they go about their days. But more than anything, they wanted to get their hands on a Reptar Bar. As a result, they were the only things we could think of when we watched this show.
We have no idea what a Reptar Bar was made from or what it tasted like, but the fact that it turned your tongue green was enough for us all to become obsessed.
Stand By Me - Blueberry Pie
Okay, okay. Blueberry pie isn't a new invention, and it certainly wasn't made just for the pie-eating contest in the epic coming-of-age drama, Stand By Me. But has a blueberry pie ever looked as good as in that movie? No, we don't think so. And while this specific pie scene became one of the most dramatic scenes in the movie and had the potential to put us all off it for life, it just made us want it even more.
If you want to replicate this blueberry pie at home, though, we'd suggest eating it in small quantities. You don't want to repeat what happened in the movie - unless you have a very sturdy toilet.
Forrest Gump - Box of Chocolates
Arguably one of the most famous movies ever released, Forrest Gump taught us a lot about life. More than anything, though, it taught us that life is like a box of chocolates - and you just really don't know what you're going to get. And while this was a poignant point in the movie, we can't help but crave chocolate every time we hear him say that. Especially as those chocolates looked so good.
In today's day and age, though, this quote is a little outdated. Most chocolate boxes come with information on what each one is - so we guess you can know what you're going to get.
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory - Wonka Bar
When it comes to fictional foods in movies, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory is full of them. From everlasting gobstoppers to lickable wallpaper and even golden goose eggs, the whole movie looks good enough to eat. But nobody can deny that the pièce de résistance in this film is the Wonka Bar. And while you can buy Wonka Bars in many grocery stores across the globe, we'll never know if they taste like the real thing.
Of course, none of them will have the official golden tickets hidden within the wrapper, either. But that probably doesn't stop fans from buying and eating them all, just in case.
Pulp Fiction - Big Kahuna Burger
If you go into any fast food restaurant and ask for a Big Kahuna Burger, they're probably going to point you in the direction of a Big Mac or a Big Whopper instead. But if you happen to stumble across Quentin Tarantino and ask for a Big Kahuna Burger, he'll definitely give you a knowing smile. That's because Tarantino uses the make-believe fast food chain in many of his movies, and the Big Kahuna burger also exists in the Pulp Fiction universe.
You might want to avoid this burger if you're called Brett, but everyone else can enjoy this delicious-looking fictional food if they're willing to pretend it's from Big Kahuna. Just make sure you have some pineapple on tap.
Spongebob Squarepants - Krabby Patty
Spongebob Squarepants has been on our screens for decades - both as a TV show and as movies. And there are a few things we know about Spongebob. We know that he lives in a pineapple under the sea, we know that he loves Sandy Cheeks, and we know that he works at the Krusty Krab. And you can't go to the Krusty Krab without picking up its iconic burger - the Krabby Patty.
On-screen, the Krappy Patty looks so yummy, and you can make something similar at home as it looks very similar to a traditional hamburger with all of the trimmings. But we guess you can also make it your own with the toppings of your choice.
The Sound of Music - Schnitzel With Noodles
You probably don't need us to tell you that The Sound of Music is one of the most famous movies of all time. From the storyline to the music to the legendary actors who starred in this film, everything about it has put it in the realm of legends. But do you remember Maria Von Trap's favorite things? Sure, she loved brown paper packages tied up with string and raindrops on roses, but she also loved schnitzel with noodles.
Of course, you may have had schnitzel before. But one thing you might not know is that in Germany, they often eat schnitzels with a noodle-type side dish. So, maybe it's time to give it a try?
Scooby-Doo - Scooby Snacks
Let's be honest; we can all relate to Shaggy and Scooby-Doo. They're constantly hungry and constantly on the lookout for their next meal, and this is something that many movie fans experience on a daily basis, too. And while the mystery-solving duo do take time out of their day to catch bad guys and save the world in Scooby-Doo, in the back of their minds they're always thinking of Scooby Snacks.
We don't know whether this fictional food is human food or dog food, but one thing we do know is that many Scooby-Doo fans want to try them out anyway.
Big Night - Timballo
Any movie or TV show that takes place in a restaurant is going to be overloaded with delicious food. And that's certainly the case with Big Night. As it follows brothers owning and working in an Italian restaurant, the whole movie made us drool. But there was one particular dish that made us hungrier than anything else - and that was the timballo. If you're from Italy, however, you may know it as timpano.
This lasagne-like dish is made from pasta, sauce, and layered sausage - and the brothers add eggs to their recipe in this movie, too. The finished result really did look good enough to eat.
Napoleon Dynamite - Tater Tots
Napoleon Dynamite may be a comedy movie, but it taught us a lot about life. Most of all, it taught us that we should always have some snacks in our pockets - and we shouldn't give in to bullies who want to take those snacks away from us. Yep, that's especially true when those snacks are tater tots. And Napoleon was onto a real winner when he decided to sneak them out of the cafeteria and into his pockets.
Tater tots are always good, and they always taste delicious. So, we bet fans have followed in his footsteps and decided to keep tater tots in their pockets since then.
Zombieland - Very Old Twinkies
Like many of the other foods on this list, seeing Twinkies on our screens made us want them immediately. But seeing Twinkies on Zombieland also made us question everything we know about this sugary treat. After all, if Twinkies can survive years after a zombie apocalypse, we can't help but wonder what they're made from. How do they last so long? How many E numbers and preservatives are they packed full of?
But if Tallahassee can survive purely on Twinkies and still go on to survive a zombie apocalypse, we probably shouldn't question it. Instead, we should stock up - just in case.
Julie & Julia - Coq Au Vin
If you're a fan of Nora Ephron, you'll know that she puts a huge amount of love into her movies. And when we learned that the famed director would be following the life and times of esteemed chef Julia Child, we knew that this love would also merge with the world's love of food. Of course, all of the dishes Meryl Streep and Amy Adams made in this movie looked delicious.
There was one that stood out more than most, however, and that was the coq au vin. And when fans saw this dish on their screens, they wished that smelly-vision existed.
Life - Cornbread
The 1999 movie Life is one of those movies that didn't do as well as expected when it was released. But since then it's become a cult classic, with fans loving the storyline, the actors, and the subtle details that make this movie what it is. And one of our favorite foods from this movie was the cornbread. Of course, we don't appreciate the fact that they were throwing this delicious food in an epic food fight.
This scene was iconic, though, and gave us a real hankering for cornbread. And as the movie taught us, we wouldn't share our cornbread with anyone else - just in case.
Monsters, Inc. - Snow Cones
When you think about it, snow cones aren't all that impressive. They're just ice that's smothered in fruit juice and sauce, after all. But even if you're not the biggest fan of snow cones, there's a high chance that you were intrigued when you saw the snow cones on your screen while watching Monsters, Inc. Especially as they were made by the abominable snowman, who did a pretty good job.
While you can make snow cones at home, anyone who has ever tried to do so will know that it's just not the same as when someone else makes it for you. There must be a trick we're missing.
E. T: The Extra-Terrestrial - Reese's Pieces
When iconic movies feature foods that we all know and love, they don't take long to fly off the shelves and sell out. And that's exactly what happened when E.T: The Extra-Terrestrial featured Reese's Pieces. As soon as E.T showed his love for the peanut butter chocolate treats, the world fell in love with them even more. For months, fans struggled to find any to add to their own stockpiles.
And we can't really blame E.T for being obsessed with this candy. Reese's Pieces have been delicious for decades, and who can resist the mixture of peanut butter and chocolate? Not us.
Goodfellas - Prison Wine
Goodfellas may be a movie about criminals and prison, but that didn't stop the likes of Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci from eating good. As they "owned the joint" while they were in prison, they were able to feast on a regular basis - eating delicious, high-quality food and drinking their very own prison wine. Of course, they had to make it themselves, but they had the produce to make something delicious.
Apparently, you make prison wine by fermenting overripe oranges in water and sugar. And while we'd be a little cautious to try it, you can't deny that it didn't look good.
Annie Hall - Lobster
Woody Allen is generally considered to be one of the most famous filmmakers of all time, and while everyone has their favorite Woody Allen movie - it's hard to deny that the lobster scene in Annie Hall is truly iconic. Sure, it's one of the most chaotic things we've ever watched, but it's also hilarious and romantic at the same time. And while it might put many people off lobster, it made us want it even more.
Yes, there's nothing better than a well-cooked lobster smothered in butter and herbs. And while we're not sure whether the lobsters actually get eaten in Annie Hall, we're going to assume that they were... eventually.
Iron Man - Cheeseburger
If you're familiar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you'll know that Tony Stark - AKA Iron Man - absolutely loves a cheeseburger. This is seen across various scenes and various movies, and it became somewhat of a running joke as his story played out on the screen. And who can blame him, really? Whether he headed to Burger King or a random diner with his Avenger pals, these cheeseburgers always looked delicious.
Tony's daughter even asked for a cheeseburger after her dad's funeral, so it seems as though a love of cheeseburgers was also passed down to her. We think it's been passed down to the fans, too.
The Jungle Book - Pawpaw Fruit
Even if you haven't watched The Jungle Book (which you definitely should, by the way), you'll probably be familiar with "The Bare Necessities" song. And if you've taken a moment to listen to the exact lyrics of this song, you may have heard them sing about the pawpaw fruit. As many of the foods on this list are fictional, you may have assumed that the pawpaw fruit isn't real, either. But we're here to tell you that it actually exists!
If you fancy tracking a trek into the tropical forests of the eastern United States and southern Canada, you'll be able to try this movie food out for yourself, too. Apparently, it tastes like a mixture of mango and pineapple.
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World - Garlic Bread
Let's be honest; we don't really need a movie to tell us how great garlic bread is. We'd bet our bottom dollar that most people would happily eat garlic bread for every meal. As Ramona told us (well, Scott) in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, however, bread makes us fat. But while most movie fans will heed her advice, it's fair to say that the garlic bread in the movie did look utterly divine.
If we could have reached through the screen and grabbed the garlic bread for ourselves, we would have done it. But alas, we'll just have to make our own garlic bread instead.
Harry Potter - Butterbeer
Harry Potter allowed us to step into a magical world full of moving staircases, helpful house elves, and magical creatures. And while you could spend hours dissecting every detail in the Harry Potter universe, most fans will tell you that Butterbeer is one of those details that never leaves their mind. Every time we see it on screen, it looks creamy, foamy, and downright delicious. And many people would do anything to try it for themselves.
This is something that you can't just make at home, which makes it even more desirable. But if you head to Universal Studios, you'll be able to try the Muggle version of it.
Chef - Cuban Sandwich
Like many of the other food-related movies on this list, Chef left us feeling very hungry. And while we would have eaten anything from the food truck featured in this movie, it's fair to say that the Cuban sandwich was the most iconic. Of course, if you're from Florida or the surrounding areas, you've probably eaten a Cuban sandwich before. But have you eaten a Cuban sandwich made by Jon Favreau?
Thankfully, it's fairly easy to replicate this dish at home. All you need is some good quality bread, marinated pork, pickles, mustard, and some delicious Swiss cheese. All in all, it's chef's kiss.
Bob's Burgers - Burger of the Day
As it's literally called Bob's Burgers, you probably won't be surprised to learn that there are a lot of burgers in this TV show. And one of the things we love the most about this show is the 'Burger of the Day.' Of course, the power of animation means that these burgers of the day always look juicy and delicious, but the names of them also make them extremely appealing through the screen.
So, which one would you eat if you could choose? The Pobano Picasso burger? The Fig-eta Bout It burger? Or maybe the Rest in Peas burger? We'll let you decide.
Edward Scissorhands - Ambrosia Salad
Let's be honest; ambrosia salad tastes better than it looks. At first glance, it looks as though someone (who has recently eaten some very colorful candy) has simply thrown up into a bowl and served it at the barbecue. But there's a reason why ambrosia salad has been so popular over the years - and there must have been a reason why Tim Burton decided to include it in Edward Scissorhands.
We're not sure Edward was too impressed as Joyce fed him spoonful after spoonful of ambrosia salad at his first barbecue, but we can't imagine he ate much better in the castle before that.
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory - Everlasting Gobstopper
The idea of an everlasting piece of food that will never get smaller is something that makes any foodie happy. So, when Willy Wonka created the Everlasting Gobstopper, it made all of us happy. And in true Wonka form, the whole thing looked creative and colorful, too. The chocolate factory owner made sure to make it look weird and wonderful, and good enough to eat over and over again for eternity.
The sad thing is that we'll never be able to eat this fictional food. Sure, we're sure someone has tried to make a dupe of an Everlasting Gobstopper - but so far they haven't succeeded.
The LEGO Movie - Tacos
Hands up if you'd vote for Lord Business if he offered you free tacos? Don't worry; most of us would. And that's exactly how he managed to take over the world in The LEGO Movie, as it seems we just can't deny ourselves the deliciousness of free tacos. Every day should be taco Tuesday, after all! After watching this film, we imagine most LEGO fans left the movie theater to head to their nearest Taco Bell, too.
Although we didn't get a good look at the tacos that Lord Business was offering in this movie, we've eaten enough tacos in our time to know what they look like - and what they taste like.
It's Complicated - Chocolate Croissant
Meryl Streep has been in a few different food-related movies. And we don't know whether it's her calming, entertaining presence or that we're just always hungry, but the chocolate croissants in It's Complicated made us drool. Of course, the movie itself is very chaotic and confusing, but the food is simple and delicious. And while all of her baked goods looked yummy, the chocolate croissants looked better than anything else we saw.
Thankfully, this is something you can make at home. Or if you head to your local bakery you can probably find some freshly-baked chocolate croissants still warm from the oven.
The Polar Express - Hot Chocolate
You probably already know that Christmas movies go harder on their food and drink than others, which is probably why it won't surprise you to learn that The Polar Express is full of yummy-looking goodness. And while we could list countless foods that made us drool in this movie, nothing looked better than the over-the-top hot chocolate they made. The characters even sang and danced when they made it, which was a nice festive touch.
Of course, everyone knows that it's easy to make your own hot chocolate at home. But this fictional version was like nothing we had ever seen before - and probably nothing we've ever tasted.
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory - Lickable Wallpaper
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory is one of those movies that brings food and creativity together. And if you're gearing up to remodel or redecorate your house, you might want to take a leaf out of Roald Dahl's book. After all, he was the one who came up with the idea of the lickable wallpaper that we saw in the movie. And that would be a pretty cool addition to any home.
Imagine the scene; you're feeling a little peckish but don't have any food in the house. So, you simply walk to your nearest wall and give it a lick! We don't know where you'd buy it, though.
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory - Golden Eggs
If you're hungry and looking to pass the time before your next meal, you should probably avoid watching Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. Everything about this movie looks delicious - especially when we make our way into the chocolate factory itself. And while Willy Wonka was able to bring so many amazing sweet treats to life, the golden eggs were a particular favorite with fans at home. After all, they were huge.
We can only assume that these giant, golden eggs were made entirely of chocolate - which makes it the perfect snack for those with a sweet tooth. Just look at it!
Friends - Monica's Candy
Of course, Friends is all about the friends we see hanging out in Central Perk and their apartment. And while food isn't at the forefront of this show, there's no doubt about the fact that certain foods have gone down in TV history - like the turkey that gets stuck on Joey's head to Rachel's infamous trifle. But who could forget about Monica's candy? It was so good that her neighbors did everything they could to grab some.
While we'd love to know what was in this candy and how she made it, we're still none the wiser. So, we'll have to deal with grocery store candy instead.
